Windows Live Mail FAQ

My account has been compromised and filling online forms is not helping

09. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: Account Owner, account verification, microsoft, Microsoft account

Hi,

I am getting rather frustrated as I have been filling online forms to verify my Hotmail account but keep receiving

We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify your ownership of this account using the information you provided. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of your personal information very seriously, and we are committed to protecting the personal information of customers. We have taken the additional step of blocking your account *** Email address is removed for privacy *** until we can verify you as the account owner. This will prevent any further use of the account, and protect you from any possible malicious activity.

Please submit a new account verification form.

Now apparently I have reached all the maximum attempts. I need my email to access my work related stuff and getting frustrated as there is nowhere to turn to as you do not have any helpline. Any chance to get in contact with me so I can provide you with my details and you can send me the verification link to my other alternative address please?

Thanks Hana

I has recently returned to old job part time. My company email account has been deleted. I has some project for college I would like to complete.

Question - Is it safe for me to use my Microsoft account at work? I need to download & complete files to submit for college. Yes, my SkyDrive account is mobile and I have flash drive for specific projects.

E-mail Alias already taken

08. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: microsoft, Microsoft account
Hi,

I recently moved to a lumia 1020 and am in the process of trying to consolidate my email accounts and information. Along with transitioning to windows 8.1 on my desktop.

I have a .live account which I created a couple months ago and I would like to use from now on. Originally I had another Microsoft account prior which was a gmail account. So I went to add this gmail account as an alias to the new Microsoft live account i created. This did not work as it was already its own stand alone Microsoft account.

So I then logged in and closed the Microsoft account which was tied to my gmail in hopes of adding it to an alias to the new one.

However when I go to add this email it still says  "This email address is already taken. Please try another."

How can i possibly make this work? Is there a time period which the servers will eventually refresh and realize the older gmail microsoft account has been closed/deactivated and i then can proceed to add it as an alias?

I really am a bit bummed right now. I want to move to the windows side of things here and this is preventing me from making the change.

Any Help greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Microsoft Account and Outlook.com

I am so confused. It seems to be a very complex and interwoven set of problems so I will need to lay this out and take it in steps.

I have an old Microsoft Account that I set up years ago with a POP email address.
When I setup my new Windows 8 computer, it asked for my Microsoft Account Name and email address, so I the old POP email address.  Then I tried to set up my Mail App on the new computer and that's when the fun started.  I finally realized that it is impossible to add a pop mail account to the Mail App.  So I tried to change the e mail address on my Microsoft Account to an existing Hotmail email address, and in the process, lost admin access, which I could not recover and had to run the recovery discs.

The Hotmail address was an old one that Microsoft had converted to Outlook.com, so when I set up the computer the 2nd. time, after running the recovery discs, I used the Outlook.com account with the Hotmail address.  That seemed to work pretty good and I even figured out how to forward my pop mail to the Hotmail address so I can now get all my mail in Outlook.com and I could add the Outlook.com account to the Mail App on the new Windows 8.

But now, it seems that I have the one good Outlook.com account with the Hotmail address.

Then I have another Outlook.com account with the pop email address, (which does nothing) and I also have a "Microsoft Account" with the same pop mail address.  The reason I set up the Microsoft Account in the first place no longer exists, so I don't think I need it.

Question:
What, if any, problems would I have, if I completely deleted the old Microsoft Account?

How to Unlink Skype account to a Microsoft account

I am having the same problem. I do not have an Office365 account (that I know of).

So live.com became outlook.com? I hardly use live.com, but I am having a problem changing my Skype password and I just wanted to see if my Skype account and my Live account were linked. I want to unlink them.

Thanks!

How do I move authenticator app to a new phone?

07. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: google, Microsoft account, the authenticator
I just upgraded my phone and I can't find a way to add the Microsoft account back into the authenticator app I'm using for two factor authentication.  On the other accounts I have (Google, Lastpass, Dropbox) I can get to a screen that shows me a barcode to scan to add the account, but I don't see any way to do this with the Microsoft account.  Am I missing something or do I need to disable and then re-enable TFA to add the account to the new phone?

Hi

I have received two odd emails from *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

The first one goes

Microsoft account
Security info confirmation
It looks like you added some security info to your Microsoft account (xxxxx@hotmail.com): (Not my account)
Alternate email address:xxxxxx@gmail.com (Also not my account)
You can use this info to reset your password if you forget it.

The second email goes

The account security information for your Microsoft account (*** Email address is removed for privacy ***) (Not my email) is scheduled to be removed.
- *** Email address is removed for privacy *** (this is my account

If you didn't make this request then someone else may have your password. We'd like to help you get your account back. Please go to the following website to change your password and restore your account security information:

I haven't clicked on the link and have no idea what is going on. Can anyone help?
