When i download a word file onto my computer and open the file using the default program Wordpad on Windows 8 i get page after page of what seems like code such as this: ÐÏࡱ For example, i tried to download and open a file which was in the presentation of a form and even though the words of the form were there they were buried under pages of this code stuff and there were no borders or boxes as there should have been - as i found out after downloading the file on a different computer and opening it up using Word 2008 on Windows 7. I have downloaded Word 2013 but cannot seem open the files using this program and cannot change the default program of opening these files from Wordpad to Word 2013 anyway.
how do i make my windows outlook my default mail? every time i send photos or  a file, office outlook come up.
have gone to reset default program's, accept no windows outlook to be found
I am deploying Office 2011 to over 100 Macs and want to make Outlook 2011 the default program for all email, calendaring and contacts.  I would like to set that option using a shell script since we are deploying Office via Casper.  I noticed that when I select that option in the GUI in Preferences, the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file is updated.  So in my script, I use plistbuddy to make the changes and the plist file indicates that Outlook is the default for all of those options.  But when I go into Outlook, the checkbox for that option is still not checked.

Has anyone else done this and can you tell me if there is another file that needs to be modified?

Is it possible to edit something with Adobe 9 pro while working within 365? Can I set a default program for it to open to besides a reader so I can edit my PDF documents without downloading them to my computer and re-uploading them? Thanks for any insight.
