Hi

My company just changed over from a random mail server to Google apps corporate mail. I pleaded with them to use outlook but it was nearly 3  times the price and we are a small non for profit organisation. I hate gmail with a passion not to mention I have a windows phone and it does not work great.

I went to https://domains.live.com/ and register my domain and my work email. I received the conformation in my Gmail and followed the prompts. I was then present with outlook.com page logged into my email. I sent an email to the work email from the work email but it did not arrive in my outlook folder but t showed up in gmail.  If I sent an email again from my self to my self but from gmail it would not show up in outlook either.  When I look on the internet everything says I had o set up  MX records but I never even got a prompt to enter anything.

Any help would be great, I don't want to use gmail :(

Hi All,

After a bit of help from the back end team on this one.

Need to have this domain added to live.com but am unable to as It is saying

"This domain name can't be used because it contains a protected word or inappropriate language. Please contact support if you feel this is not the case."

Can anyone that reads this please BUMP.

Anyone else that is needing help with the same issue, unfortunately the only thing to do is post here and wait for service from Microsoft.

Many thanks and hoping for a quick resolve.
Where I can Check in private the Status of my Custom Domain in outlook.com at windows live admin center?

I would like the ability to reset account passwords on my custom domain adminctrl.com

Is this possible?

Hi,
I have configured my email to Outlook.com/domains.live.com custom domain. I wanted to understand what should the CNAME records be set to for 1) SMTP 2) POP and 3) Autodiscover.
Appreciate your help.

Hi all,

Ok, so I've set up a custom domain on Outlook.com and activated the user account in question.

I know I can set up the account in Outlook 2013 as "Outlook.com or Exchange ActiveSync" using m.hotmail.com as the server, but I would rather set it up as POP / SMTP since then it can go into my existing PST and that way I can also continue to use a single calendar in Outlook 2013.

However, I simply cannot get SMTP to work. POP3 works fine (pop3.live.com, Port 995 with SSL)

But SMTP never works. Everything I've seen says to use port 587 with TLS using smtp.live.com, but that doesn't work. In fact, I have tried every combination of the following ports and security settings and none of them work:

Ports:
25, 465, 587
Security:
None, SSL, TLS

Has anybody gotten this to work, and if so, what's the secret?

Thanks in advance!

I have a domain and have set it up yesterday using the instructions from the domains settings page. I have checked through nslookup and it appears that MX and TXT records were updated successfully. However, the domain status is still 'Pending DNS configuration'. I have already tried changing my administrator account as it showed the same status for over 2 days when using the first account. The following are the details for my custom domain:

Domain: njcollections.in

MX: e14193f284b58a97ff109df74ffdd6.pamx1.hotmail.com (Priority is 10)

TXT: v=msv1 t=e14193f284b58a97ff109df74ffdd6 (TTL is 3600)

TXT: v=spf1 include:hotmail.com ~all (TTL is 3600)

Domain status is:

njcollections.in | unknown | closed | Pending DNS configuration

I will very much appreciate your help. Thanks.

I recently set up my mail service for my custom domain through domains.live.com. After configuring the account and sending some test emails through the outlook.com website, I attempted to configure the account through an email program on my computer. I am using the recommended settings for the client and am able to properly send emails but when I go to receive them, I am getting an error message about my password not being received by the pop server: "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop3.live.com responded: POP3 server failed to process your request." I am assuming this is due to some bad configuration on my part with the pop server - be it my username or password.

The configuration details I am using are below:

Incoming settings:

username: *** Email address is removed for privacy *** (username I use to access outlook.com)

password: (password I use to log into outlook.com)

pop3 server: pop3.live.com

port: 995

security type: SSL/TLS

Authentication: Normal Password

Outgoing Settings:

SMTP Server: smtp.live.com

Port: 587

Security Type: STARTTLS

Authentication: Normal Password

Again, I can send email properly through both the web client as well as the desktop client I am using. However, I am only able to receive mail through the web client.

Is it an issue with the custom domain or something else?

Thanks,

Jeff
