I am receiving someone else’s account verification code emails

26. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: account verification, account verification code, microsoft, secondary address
I have already ignored several of these emails thinking they were some kind of phishing email, but now there have just been too many of them.  I would guess that this is one of two problems. Either #1, someone else mistakenly has my email address listed as their secondary email.  Or #2, Microsoft is sending the account verification email to the wrong account. If #1, wouldn't the secondary email address have to be confirmed before it could be added to an account?  If so, there is no way my email could have been added.  I'm leaning more towards #2, mostly because there have been several times in the last few months that I have been required to verify my account (to change settings, etc) and the email was never delivered to my secondary address.  How do I fix this? I feel bad for the real person trying to verify their account. I personally know how frustrating it is.

Getting hundreds of account verification code emails

24. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: account verification code, microsoft, Microsoft account
For the past couple of months I've been getting hundreds of the following emails from Microsoft - usually in batches of like 20. I've changed my password several times but I want to know if there's a way to stop it. It looks like someone has put their backup email account as mine. Any ideas?

EDIT: Outlook has marked the sender as legitimately being Microsoft, so it doesn't look like a phishing scam.

Microsoft account security code‏ --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

Thanks for helping us verify your Microsoft account (k************** Email address is removed for privacy ***)! <---This is not my email address.

Here is your code: **** <--- A different number each time.

If you didn't request this code, we recommend that you go to https://account.live.com and change your password.

Thanks,

The Moderators are not helping — They keep locking my thread, so I keep reposting my question

The Moderators keep giving me a link (to where I don't have a clue), stating that someone there will help. But whenever I've submitted my issue, I never receive a reply. So, I keep posting my question here. It seems that a Moderator changed my original title to my post. Here is what they changed it to: Want to backup email address to receive the account verification code.

NO, I was not trying to receive the account verification code. I simply wanted to change the backup email address on my account, just in case it was ever necessary for me to receive some code (if I ever had a problem with my account, and I do not currently have any access problem). IF ANYONE UNDERSTANDS SIMPLE ENGLISH, PLEASE READ THIS AND REPLY IF YOU HAVE ANY HELPFUL INFO.

Original title: Security backup email address - Please read this and Moderators PLEASE DO NOT LOCK THIS THREAD before I get answer!

First, PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE REPLYING. Moderators PLEASE DO NOT LOCK THIS THREAD before I get answer! Moderators seem to have a habit of locking threads before an answer is given. (Remember, a *reply* is not necessarily an *answer* -- i.e., resolution.)

I want to change the backup email address (the separate/alternate email account) where security verification info is sent. But the procedure would not allow me to select an alternate email account. Instead, it states that it is sending a code to that address. The problem is that I previously awhile back (months) already deleted the backup email account that is listed.

The moderators sent me an email with a link directing me to the page (see link below) with instructions that are TOO COMPLICATED for me to understand. So, PLEASE DO NOT DIRECT ME BACK TO THAT PAGE. I simply want to know how -- if possible -- to change the backup/alternate email address on the security section of my outlook.com email account. Below is the link and instructions on that page that I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I cannot make sense out of it, and I cannot make it work. The instructions are TOO TECHNICAL and TOO COMPLICATED.
