Why does the Microsoft Security Essentials update fail?

I have similar question. I get emails coming in but can not send any out. My setting I believe are correct . Here is what what I have my settings for:
Incoming POP3 Servicer: pop3.live.com
Outgoing: smtp.live.com
Server port numbers in Advance: Outgoing mail (STMP) 25
Incoming : 995.
This is what I get:
An unknown error has occurred.
Subject 'zzz'
Server Error: 421
Server Response: 421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 40.101.128.194 (40.101.128.194:25), connect error 10060
Server: 'smtp.live.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC67
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): Yes
Also I am always working offline. When I click to change it it will not let me. This is soo fruasting as I have been working on this issue since Tuesday.
Please help as I have customers to send invoices too.

I'm having problems with my windows live mail.
The log on box comes on with writing horizontal and vertical, and part of it is blurred, and unable to read, also when I have logged on some of the writing and photos are blurred
How do I fix this?
