Seems that there is a major account issue going on and I have been able to reproduce it.
It all started with what I thought was someone hacking my outlook.com account. It appears that Microsoft let someone take over my account. Even though I got the emails that asked if I wanted to allow someone to connect a pc to my account (and I clicked the link that said NO or that I did not initiate the request) they still let it happen. Worse part about it is that after I got the account back they let it happen again. When I got the account back the first time I was able to get all the contacts and documents that the person had uploaded to the account along with their contact information. When they took it over the second time, I gave the person a call. They explained that they got a new PC and while at the Microsoft store they created an account for O365 and used that to log into their new PC. This account name was the same as my outlook account and that is where the linkage occurred.
I have been trying for a week to get it back for the second time but now Microsoft is not allowing me to get it back because the person that took it has changed the alt email address, phone number and everything else that comes with it. And because I changed the password the last time I got it back I can't remember the 1st password that I had used.
Now for reproducing the issue:
In searching for how to get my account back I created an account on this support community. I used another of my outlook.com email addresses. When I logged in I was asked to create a username. I did and the one I used just so happens to be the username of my xbox account. After logging the ticket I received emails confirming my account in my outlook.com email account. The next day I log back in with my outlook.com email/un and there are no tickets. Where did they go??? It just so happens that although I created the account using an outlook.com email address when the ticket was created it tied the ticket to my xbox account that just so happens to be tied to a gmail.com email address.
I know that is very confusing but for those with Microsoft mailboxes I would be careful what you keep in them as Microsoft is very likely to give away your account to someone with a new Windows 8 machine and will do little to help you get it back or straighten out the mess.
All the while I am still fighting to get back my email account with little to no help. Tier 1 support does not seem to want to take this serious and I can't seem to get escalated to someone that does. Worse part about it is that I have all the proof that I could provide but since there is really no support for any online accounts it is useless. Just consider this if you are thinking about using any of there online accounts for small business as I was. You could lose it in a flash.
As an Enterprise Microsoft Architect and Software developer I have always been a strong advocate of Microsoft products. However with this, I have serious concerns when it comes to their cloud security. I know that this is not enterprise level accounts but I would expect the same level of security and privacy.
