Hi there!
We have a user who works satisfied with his Mac and Outlook 2011.
The local domain name is company.local. The external domain name is company.com.
Our Exchange 2010 SP3 is working fine, reachable mail.company.com (internal and external).
The user would like to connect to the calendar of a second user [*** Email address is removed for privacy ***]. This works fine on an Outlook 2013 Client (Windows 8.1). [Inside and outside of the companys intranet.]
On his personal laptop (BYOD) we open in Outlook 2011 --->
File > Open > Other User's Folder…
And we will find everybody in the address book, but we can’t connect.
The first error message is the best, it tells us that there are issues with the certificate. After I take a look at the certificate I understand how Outlook 2011 is looking for our mailserver:
Error message:
The name on the certificate “www.company.com” is not “company.com”.
So what is Outlook 2011 looking for after I add an “Other User’s Folder…”?
It seems to me, that Outlook 2011 looks at the mail address of the target user, for examples *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, and decides to check with a “nslookup company.com” the Host A Record.
But the Host A Record of company.com belongs to our www.company.com webserver. Our website is reachable over port 80 (http) and port 443 (https).
It is strange that Outlook 2011 is looking out for the Exchange server. Because it has already all information how to connect to Exchange.
We have autodiscover.company.com configured. But it does not use this information.
Is there a work around? I already tried to give *** Email address is removed for privacy *** a second mail address like user2@mail.company.com and *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, but it seems that you can't search the address book for a second mail address a user have.
Thanks!
