I recently purchased a Dell Laptop with Windows 8.1.  After using Easy Transfer to move files from current laptop to new one, everything transfers and works properly EXCEPT Windows Live Mail (Download through Windows Essentials 2012).

In fact, Live Mail worked before I did the Easy Transfer.  Now, I can't get 2011 or 2012 to work after multiple downloads (uninstalling current version each time), using the Repair function and even double checking the graphics driver per one suggestion.

I'm using Roadrunner which has a POP server so I can't use the email that came with 8.1, hence the need for Live Mail.  I've downloaded Thunderbird and that works just fine, just a pain to transfer all the emails.

This should be seamless but nothing is posted that really helps.

Anyone have a SIMPLE solution that does not take a professional to make it work?

I have several email accounts which I access through Live Mail. I wish to check the passwords that are current and then change some of them. How do I access them please? I can find a way to add but not to remove or change details once they have been added.

Is there a way to configure Windows Live Mail (2012) to only show the paperclip sign on an email when there is an actual attachment (such as a Word, Excel, JPG file)?

At the moment the paperclip sign also appears on other messages as well, which makes it impossible to establish which emails have actual attachments.

From searching the internet, the suggestion is that the paperclip signs that appear on messages that do not have an actual attachment may be due to them containing signatures with images.

From looking at my data, the original emails which came from Microsoft Outlook only show paperclips when there are actual attachments. When I imported them into a new Outlook.com account, paperclips appeared on more emails than the originals, and having just synced this account with WLM, there are even more paperclips in WLM than appeared in Outlook.com.

Is there any way to configure WLM to only show the paperclips when there is an actual attachment?

I used to be able to add a contact to an existing group in Windows Mail with out adding this contact to my regular contact list.

This does not seem possible in this version of Windows mail.

has this oprion been eliminated or am I missing it?

I am trying to send jpeg image in emails but windows live mail always seems to convert these back into a slide show WITHOUT MY PEMISSION, which some of my reciepents will not accept. AS i'M IN THE PROCESS OF APPLYING FOR JOBS ONLINE THAN THIS ISSUE IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME. I would really appreciate an early response to this question as I'm facing unemployment and a lot of employers advertise on line. So how can this be fixed? I have already had slide show emails from a resume writing company not being allowed to be sent. As the young lady said to me in a previous interview, only attachments or jpeg images were acceptable for her email account. How many other people have experienced the same problem??  I would hate to be sarcastic to a multi billion dollar business like Microsoft but this problem could mean the difference between poverty and success.

I do I delete the windows web watchdog virus.  Security Essentials scan did not find it.

I installed windows live mail when I got my new windows 7 computer. the print is so small I can hardly read it. when I tried to send an email from a website. the only option was to send it to my desk top. the other two were shaded. so I uninstalled windows live mail and installed yahoo mail. I still can not email from a website. I would like to make my yahoo mail as my default. no one seems to know how to do that. I can not email from either email account from a website. I could not even email from the windows live mail it`s self.  I had incredimail first and it just froze up so I had to uninstall it. I do not know why Microsoft would put an email program on windows 7 that makes impossible to use any other email account. also I tried to find where I could reinstall windows live mail thinking I missed something the first time I installed it and hoping I could sent out an email. I can not even find where to reinstall it now, not that I want it anyway.

Also I just downloaded windows essentials 2012 thinking it might help. well now I just have another icon on my desktop and I don`t see anything I would use it for. I have not uninstalled it because I think I saw it before in my control panel. can I uninstall it or is it something I need?

I have Windows Live Mail 2012 installed on a Windows 7 64 bit PC. Within the Send group icon along the top bar, there is a button called 'Instant Message' and it is always greyed out. Any idea what is it for, and how to use this feature, that is if I ever get it to turn on first?

Thanks for your insight.

Hey all,

I recently removed my hotmail account from WLM because the folders that I had created for my E-Mails weren't expanding, i.e. folders within folders...I did have a look at some settings but nothing seemed to work so I went for a simple quick fix of removing the account and uninstalling WLM and reinstalling and adding the account all over again...quick and easy fix. Only now, the account I removed is still there when I load up WLM, as well as the same account added all over again. The old account doesn't show anything in it, it's just still there and it's just annoying and I cannot get rid of it. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is still there and more to the point, how to get rid of it

many many thanks

This dialogue box also says "Not Connected". And, under the Tasks tab it shows "Send 1 messages(s) using 'pop.pacbell.yahoo.com' with Status Completed; Send 1 message(s) using 'pop.pacbell.yahoo.com' with Status Executing; and a third message that hasn't started yet waiting for the Executing message to complete. This message prevents me from opening Live Mail. This started yesterday afternoon after troubleshooting with AT&T about emails disappearing from Live Mail. It looks like something is "stuck" but I can figure out how to "unstick it". This morning the AT&T tech said I needed to talk to Microsoft about this. Thanks for any help you can offer.
