I think the problem started when I had to change to IMAP recently as MS stopped supporting my .Live account on WLM.
I used to be able to look at the folder list in left pane of WLM and see which folders had unread mail in them. It would, for instance, show with a (3) if there were three unread messages.
This was useful for the Junk folder as a prompt to remind me to check if there was anything "genuine" in there.
Now I have just found that there is a load of unread mail in my Junk folder but I have not known that as the folder icon doesn't show anything.
