Really trying to avoid reinstalling Windows here, I just spent hours setting  a customer up with lots of data migration and at the end of all that, we can't use Photo Gallery at all.

I do have a Process Monitor trace if that will help anyone...

  • Brand New PC, Windows 8.1 fully updated

  • Windows Live Photo Gallery 2012

  • OneDrive Photo folder is included as a folder in Photo Gallery.

  • Already ran REPAIR from control panel on Windows Live Essentials

  • Removed Live Essentials 2012 using revo uninstaller, rebooted and reinstalled, no help.

  • Already ran SFC /scannow

  • These same photos open up fine on another computer in Photo Gallery 2012

  • Have created a second User Screen called TEST same thing happens l

Every time Photo Gallery is launched, we get an error:

“Windows Photo Gallery has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.”

The original error referred to a codec issue, but have not seen that same error since. Photos are taken with a variety of camera's, error comes up on different sources of cameras. IPhone, canon, etc.
