I have windows live mail on my windows 7 laptop which I use for several accounts.

I have a linux server at home I can tunnel to using putty for secure emails while in public wifi areas.

I can set up the browser through the tunnel and everything is OK.

PROBLEM -

I can "receive mail" but cannot send via smtp

also configured WLM for the 2525 and 9465 ports but no better

error for 9587 9465 and 2525 ports tried is
