It appears that no solution was ever found for the problem using categories.  Now that I have a Windows 10 computer with Office 2016 none of the mail programs will work with groups.  In Windows Live, when I send an email to a group of people in a category only a few of them get the email.  When I open the category under the contacts tab everyone is in there.  None of the suggestions listed in an old thread worked and so I'm reopening this issue to see if anyone has a solution.
