I just returned from a week of vacation on 7/31/2014, to find that my Live Mail 2011 application would not create or reply to or forward.  I went through the repair operation several times with no success.  I have since updated to Live Mail 2012 with the same results.  Trying to do a Restore does not seem to help either.

The Error shown for Create, Reply, or Forward is:

Windows Live Mail

A problem has occurred.  Please try again.

I am also experiencing a 0x80070005 error when I try to use the Run Maintenance Tasks, Check for Performance Issues, and Fix Problems with Windows Update when run from the Control Panel Troubleshooting page.  And Adobe Acrobat 9 Distiller now errors with " Unable to create temporary folder.  Error - 5 Access is denied" and I am unable to create PDF files from Acrobat.

The only new items that might have caused this were that I received a Windows Silverlight update when the computer first booted after I returned from vacation and I attached an Olympus WS-822 DVR to the computer and it loaded it's drivers to the system.

Thanks for your help.  I will be travelling again next week, so I may not be able to respond quickly to your suggestions.
