To repair this I went to control panel>programs>program & features>windows essentials 2012>right click on icon> repair.  I have done this several times to no success.  After several minutes of trying the message says it cannot fix program.  I don't mind switching e-mail programs to something else it is just that I have hundreds of e-mails and group contacts stored in the folders of this email account.
