Hello, MS forums.
Recently, my Movie Maker just stopped working out of nowhere. I suspect this "registry cleaner" application I mistakenly used screwed it up. I've tried many of the popular threads on this error code (including this one) and I've found two temporary workarounds.
1. Create a new profile on Windows and launch Movie Maker there. I suspect I may have corrupted my current user, but transferring all of my files still doesn't keep many of the settings I want and I'd rather just wait until I get a new SSD to do so.
2. Find moviemaker.exe, right click and choose "troubleshoot compatibility" and let it automatically choose under recommended setting "Windows XP Service Pack 2" and launch movie maker from there. When I do so, it launches up normally. However, whenever I try to save this setting, it gives me the error:
But, right-clicking moviemaker.exe and selecting properties and going under compatibility, it seems that I already have WIndows XP Service Pack 2 enabled.
So normally opening Movie Maker doesn't work, but going through "troubleshoot compatibility" does even though they're the same setting?
My question is if any of you guys know how to "fix" Movie Maker so that it starts up fine without having to a. create a new user or b. keep using the "troubleshoot compatibilty" option. Maybe if there was a fix for the "Restricted" error code I am getting when I try to save that setting, then I could launch Movie Maker normally? I realize I'll probably need to share some logs, so just tell me what to post and I'll do so. Thank you :)
