When I reply to an email and send it, it doesn’t appear in the SENT folder. What’s wrong?

When I send a reply to an email, it doesn't appear in the SENT folder. Also, although I save it before sending, it doesn't appear in the DRAFTS folder. I need to have a record of replies I've sent. How can this be rectified?
