Unable to scan and e-mail more than 2-3 pages of a document…Why?

I'm unable to scan and e-mail more than 2-3 pages at a time.  I can receive 20-30 pages at a time.  Why?  Is there a setting I can adjust to enable me to scan and e-mail 20-30 pages or more?
