I am having a similar problem.  I was once able to use Windows Live Mail to access my Verizon e-mail on my desk top computer.  It is now not recognizing my password.  I have spent hours on the phone with Verizon until they exhausted all the possible problems.  I was told to call Microsoft, but I was eventually told that they don't offer live support for this program.  Here is the error message I keep getting...

Unable to send or receive messages for the Verizon (jzXXXXXX) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this account.
