Dear all,
after checking my C:(os) and T:(data) drives, that were fine, then deinstalled WE and reinstalled them with WLM -- still it freezes.
Any suggestions how I can get WLM working again?

I have only understood half of the issues here.
I've had to upgrade to Windows Live Mail on a Windows 7 PC.
I imported my old contacts list from Outlook Express (oh I loved that simple effective program) with the usual disastrous consequences seen elsewhere and messed up groups as is well known. I've sorted that now.
I've now managed to "Clean up" contacts to remove duplicates in People Live (despite many code errors, and it's taken most of the day to clean it out as it is so slow and repeatedly crashed whichever browser I used)
I have no hotmail account. I'm not sure what people.live is but I can sign into it so I guess I have a Windows account somewhere.
My questions are:
1. How is my Windows Live Mail contacts connected to People...if at all.
2. When I am logged into Windows Live Mail with the same account I used to get in to People, it shows me I have 27000 contacts, yet People now only has 8000 contacts (which seems about right)
When I log out of a WLM account but keep the program open it shows me just over 8000 contacts (though a different number from People) which suggests they are looking at different databases
4. I want to clear out all my WLM contacts and then import the cleaned up People list...how do I do that? I'm worried if I delete everything in WLM it may also delete the People list, as they may be linked somehow?
I've never knowingly synched or linked contacts with anything else, certainly not social media.
Can you advise me?
Mark

On or about Mar 25/26 my Windows Live Mail stopped sending messages.
I have 2 Hotmail and 1 Gmail account.
The Gmail account worked fine, no problems.
I set it up -- by default (HTTP using default settings), and with 2 versions of the server (smtp Live.com & smtp outlook.com0.
I used 25, 465, and 587 ports.
Nothing worked.
After getting with AT&T support I was able to get one of the Hotmail accounts to send if I used their server. smtp.att.yahoo.com
I have been reading a lot of problems/solutions here, so I tried a lot of things.
I tried to 'restore' but the restore date was after the problem date (I may have cleared System Restore without realizing email wasn't working after an update)
I am not sure of the time of the update to WLM, if there was one.
I had just (2 months ago) installed (clean) Win 7 pro after using XP Pro for many years. (Sad to see it go)
Re-installing,re-booting, removing accounts, etc. Nothing fixed it.
I removed 2012 and put in 2011, no fix, after trying all the other fix methods, and port/server settings.
So, I removed 2011 and put in WE WLM 2010.
I like the interface and now I can send email.
But, now I cannot delete messages by clicking the delete button or delete key on keyboard.
I can drag them to the deleted folder.
And my Hotmail deleted folder(s) has messages in it from Mar 29.
If I click on the "X" on the Junk Mail or Deleted folder (left side) I get an error, then another that some items could not be removed, but they are gone from the Junk mail folder. Nothing happens in the Deleted folder.
After I try that, the "X" is no longer there when I "Mouse Over" the junk or deleted folder.

I have been a Hotmail user a very long time, before MS acquired it, could my permissions have changed?
I have read here that others have sent a PM with their email address(s) and the permissions were fixed.
Thanks

Is there a way to configure Windows Live Mail (2012) to only show the paperclip sign on an email when there is an actual attachment (such as a Word, Excel, JPG file)?
At the moment the paperclip sign also appears on other messages as well, which makes it impossible to establish which emails have actual attachments.
From searching the internet, the suggestion is that the paperclip signs that appear on messages that do not have an actual attachment may be due to them containing signatures with images.
From looking at my data, the original emails which came from Microsoft Outlook only show paperclips when there are actual attachments. When I imported them into a new Outlook.com account, paperclips appeared on more emails than the originals, and having just synced this account with WLM, there are even more paperclips in WLM than appeared in Outlook.com.
Is there any way to configure WLM to only show the paperclips when there is an actual attachment?
Hey all,
I recently removed my hotmail account from WLM because the folders that I had created for my E-Mails weren't expanding, i.e. folders within folders...I did have a look at some settings but nothing seemed to work so I went for a simple quick fix of removing the account and uninstalling WLM and reinstalling and adding the account all over again...quick and easy fix. Only now, the account I removed is still there when I load up WLM, as well as the same account added all over again. The old account doesn't show anything in it, it's just still there and it's just annoying and I cannot get rid of it. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is still there and more to the point, how to get rid of it
many many thanks
Should it? Can it? Or is it just one-way?
I carry my phone, but I can't carry my PC to meetings etc - and I don't want to duplicate the work
Is Microsoft not supporting WLM anymore?
I have lost more email then I would have imagined. The trouble seems to start with the constant replenishing WLM is doing, and then suddenly thousands of emails have only headlines, no body. Or: various headlines have all the same email body. And there is no solution it seems.
Sub-question: Is there a facility in WLM to save and/or archive certain emails which I want to keep, - and dump the rest.
Another sub-question: Why does the cursor of the mail program jump back to the top when you open a main folder in the email directory. Then you have to scroll all the way down again. Painful!
Is there an Upgrade for WLM?
Thanks,
Otto
