I use Windows Live Mail for all my emails. My operating system is Windows 7. The undo function stopped working a few weeks ago and I am unable to get it going again. I would also like to add a redo button. I have searched forums but have been unable to find a solution to either of these. Contol+z and Control+y are sometimes advised, but they don't work. Non-tech answer please, or I won't know what you are talking about!

Hi,  I tried to send email to a friend and received the following message.  I cleared the email from my outbox and tried to send a message to myself and now continuously receive this same message.  I use a public library as my email service provider.  I even tried closing down the Windows Live Mail and reopened it, but only receive this message.  Can you please help me?  The Port 465 is the correct port for my outgoing mail, so nothing is wrong with the configuration.  Thank you so much.

The message could not be sent. The setting for your outgoing email [SMTP] server might need to be configured. To find the server settings for '*** Email address is removed for privacy ***', please contact your email service provider.

I'm no great expert, but from time to time I try to help my brother-in-law (nice guy but with the technical expertise of a fencepost).  He is a real old-timer, running Windows Mail (not Windows Live Mail) on a Vista PC.  He doesn't always receive emails that I (and reportedly some others) send to him, and I've been unable to work out why.  For example, I answer his emails to me using 'Reply' which I assume guarantees that there is no error in his address; and  I don't receive any 'failure to deliver' feedback messages, except his verbal ones!  So far as I know, he has no problem with sending emails.

Rather than try to tinker with his creaking email client I thought it might be better to move him to Outlook in the hope of removing this baffling symptom.  However, when I started down that route I was immediately asked for (his) Microsoft account password, which produced a new problem; he vehemently denies having any such thing.   Now I suspect he must have set up an account somewhere along the way, possibly years ago, but I'm afraid he just doesn't recognise the question.

So there seem to be 2 possible ways I can help him.

  • One is to try solving the mystery of the failure to receive emails in his present setup.  Is this a known problem with Windows Mail?  (I assume it is no longer supported)
  • The other is to persist in setting up Outlook as his email client, which means somehow getting round the admin problem of no recorded Microsoft account.  I'm sure MS themselves could help with that aspect, but is it worth it - is the likely cause deeper, so that moving to Outlook wouldn't improve matters?

    Any suggestions welcome.
Windows Live Mail will not accept the "ctrl key+right mouse click" required by Babylon. What is the work around? I have tried changing the key for Babylon to Shift+mouse click or Alt+mouse click, but Win Live does something different with these keystrokes. Any help?
I have folders that I place certain emails to keep - today when I went to check on my email the folders and all of the content were gone, not only from my inbox, sent etc but also from all of the folders I created to hold emails for particular subject matter! - this is the second time this has happened since August 2013 when I bought my new computer and started using Windows Live Mail - can anyone tell me what is causing this and how it can be prevented in the future?

I currently have Windows Live Mail 2011 Build 15.4.3555.0308 on Windows 7. Do I need to upgrade this? If so, is it just a standard download, or do I need to do something special?

I had a Windows Essentials update on Friday, 21/2/2014, since then I can't success my mails in storage folders, over 1000+ mails dating back over 10 years, I can see the folder, see the message header, but can't access the body of the message, when I click on it I get the following pop up box

"A problem occurred while trying to open this message"

"A problem has occurred, please try again"

My inbox is OK, as is my sent items folder, just the storage folders.

I'm running Win 8

Please help!

thanks

Nick
