I had a computer crash and after getting it back from IT I cannot get to my windows live mail. I have changed my password and it lets me get to my personal info page but not to my email. The mail is not the greatest loss, but all my contacts are in there. Can anyone help me retrieve my contacts? PLEASE HELP!

Hi Microsoft Community,

I'm sorry to bother you and I apologise if this is in the wrong place or format, I'm a complete tech idiot, lol.

I recently got a new laptop, which after a week was returned to the manufacturer but because the problem was the screen I wasn't able to remove my information that I had uploaded onto it (email address etc).

So today I have been into my Microsoft account and changed my password, in addition I know I have done something within my Windows Live mail that has now disrupted it :( My fault for being an idiot and trying to make things more secure and going in gung ho, I know, sorry.

All I get now when I bring up Windows live mail or hit Send and receive is, this:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Ntlworld (sissos) account. Windows Live Mail couldn't log on to the email server using secure password authentication. Contact your email provider and verify that it supports secure password authentication. To change this logon setting, in the folder list, right-click on the account name, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu. In the Properties dialog, click the Servers tab, and then under Incoming Mail Server, select a logon option.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR Protocol error.
Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC18
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No

I have gone into the required section and entered my full email address and new password (as per the text above) but it still brings this message up.

I know it's something I've done and I'm sorry to bother the experts like you but I don't know what to do now.

I am using Windows Live Mail 2011 on my old laptop now, which is Windows 7.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Michelle

My new computer is running Win 8.1 and I've downloaded Windows Live Mail as my client mail system. Set up and sending/receiving emails on 4 accounts is fine except for receiving attachments. Although the attachment received is a .doc file type created in MS Word, Windows Live Mail says it is a prohibited file type and that it has deactivated it.  Outlook Express on my old computer - I'm still in swap-over mode! - opened the innocuous attachment with no trouble.  I don't want to change things to allow all file types to be downloaded but I do want ones created from MS Office and the like!  I see a Forum Moderator provided a private answer to this sort of question on May 2.  Could I be party to the answer?  Many thanks.

Hello,

I need guidance on this one.

I can receive mail and open mail.  As I type a reply to an existing email or type in the body of a new email I get error seen below. It can occur within a few typed words or after 40 or 50 typed words. The only way I can recover is through task manager, end task, as the continue button keeps me in the same loop.

If I do manage to complete the text without error I can send the email OK.

I have tried:

Uninstalling windows essential programs but leaving windows live mail.

Uninstalling and re-installing all of windows live essentials including Live Mail per Microsoft web site procedure.

Thanks.
