I can see the attachments, and they have the correct file associations. .xls will show Excel, .doc will show Word.
When I double click on them, nothing happens. If I right click on them, I get the sub menu with options. If I click on open, again, nothing happens.
I can click Save As, and the attachment will be saved to my PC. I can them open the folder, double click on the file, and it will open using the default program.  I should be able to open the attachment directly from Windows Live Mail.

This seems to have just started. I have searched the web, but none of the "solutions" seems to work for me.
I already tried the "uncheck the Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."

I am running Windows 7 32 bit. Home Premium.
I have all of the latest Windows Updates.

I have a constant stream of (the same 5) aparrently incomming messages appearing in my deleted items folder - as long as I am in Windows Live Mail 2011 they simply continue to pour in.

The Problem is on my PC (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1) as the messages continue to pour in after I empty deleted items and the problem continues even when I disconnent from the internet (and I do not have the problem when accessing mail from my laptop or smartphone).

No problems are detected by my ZoneAlarm Security Suite.

The problem appears to be a orruption of my installed instance of Windows Live Mail 2011.  How can I resolve this without losing my archived emails, contacts and calendars?

My computer lost it connection server for live mail, du to it having to be repaired, how do I get it up and running?

Original title: livemail disconected due to long time inactivity

I'm using a hotmail account in Windows Live Mail 2012 and as well as having many folders on the same level as the inbox many of these have their own sub-folders and, indeed, some of those have sub-folders of their own.
This works find in Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010 and (when it works at all) in 2013.
It works fine on the web page.
It works fine on the iPhone and iPad
It mostly works fine in Windows Live Mail BUT just occasionally I find that all of the sub folders simply vanish (together with their contents) and then I have to delete the account and set it up again. Fortunately everything reappears and syncs again as if nothing had happened. Closing the program and restarting doesn't solve it. Restarting the computer doesn't solve it. Only removing and then adding the account back solves it - until the next time.
I have the program running on two Windows 8 (64bit) machines and they both did the magic vanishing trick within seconds of each other yesterday.
On both computers I have had to remove and then add the account to work again.
Anyone like to offer a reason or better still, a solution?
I keep getting the following Error Messages: ' Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail account" and 'Windows Live Mail Error I. D. 0x8004889.'  How do I fix this?
