Question about Outlook Express

I keep receiving mail delivery failure messages from outlook which has been sending strange messages to all my contacts. I received 20 of these today and approx. 50 or so last week.  I assume I have a virus and as my PC is brand new with a new antivirus I am wondering how this is possible and how to fix the problem.
