pros and cons of alias’ and linked accounts

What are the pros and cons of alias' and linking email accounts? I'm aware they are different. right now I have 3 different email accounts and don't know if i should just link the 3 or make alias' for one of them. For example if i linked the 3, and signed up an account on whatever website would i be able to sign up under any one of the 3 emails ? thats just an example, i'd still like to know various pros and cons thanks!
