When using Advanced search to specify a date range, the results may not all have dates within that range.
Reproduction steps:
- Click inside the Search box and select Advanced search.
- Use the date pickers to specify a single date, e.g. from 01 August 2013 to 01 August 2013, and click Search.
- Expand the header bar of the first item in the search results and note the date/time. Do the same for the last item in the results.
The dates will be all correct only for users in the Pacific time zone. For anyone else, some of the results will either be from the day before or the day after.
The date/time stamps of the messages are taken at Redmond time (UTC-08:00), so any user west of the Pacific time zone will see search results for a 24-hour period starting a number of hours after midnight, the number being the difference between the user's time zone as given in his account details and UTC-8. This means for example that a user in New Zealand when performing the repro steps would see results with date/time stamps ranging from 20:00 on 1 August to 19:59 on 2 August. This could have serious consequences for the user.
I would expect the date to be calculated so that the results range between 00:01 and 23:59 in the user's time zone, not Microsoft's. Will steps be taken to correct this?
