simply put..... download and install movie maker 2.6 ,   find  movie maker folder for windows XP  copy  the folder....   on win 7 pc navigate to programs x(86) folder  open movie maker 2.6  and paste the movie maker windows XP files over the 2.6 files    choose replace for all.........   then open movie maker 2.6 and congratulations  you now have   movie maker with capture from video device running on win 7....              your welcome          if you don't have an old pc that has win xp   to copy from  search online  or you can always ask me to upload a copy..... also I stumbled across this discovery myself  no one had an answer so I decided to "play around" I noticed old movie maker was 13mb  and 2.6 was 12mb    so I just figured swap files... I really couldn't believe it worked and I've been trying to pass it on for over 3 years.... people complain but don't listen to good advice

Since downloading windows 8.1 on a Toshiba satellite p875-s7102  I can no longer use the movie maker, The web cam comes on but the screen is black on movie maker, also I like to use "Manycam" when broadcasting and since updating from 8.0 which it worked to 8.1 found it no longer will allow me to use it with movie maker or any sites I want to broadcast and chat on... I tried removing Manycam and re-downloading it  and searched all over to find if there was a setting I missed to allow Manycam to be the default .....anyone can help me with this I be grateful..thank-you
I recently built a new computer. It has Windows 7 64bit. I have no doubt that it passes the requirements as i use it for gaming. My problem occurs when trying to install movie maker. It will install between 7-9% and just stay there. I close it after a while with task manager and it says there was a problem. It does not specify what. Any suggestions? I have always used WMM in the past for editing videos for the ease and functionality. Nothing else is really the same for me. HELP :)

I made a long movie with an older version of movie maker and now I have the 2.6 and it tells me its not a supported file type.  Cannot even import it.  I have tried all the file converters that have recommended and I am freaking out as it is 2 hrs of photos & music with animations etc.  If someone can help me I would sure appreciate it!!!  Thank You.

I have a new Asus gaming laptop with Windows 8.  I record television shows  using WinTV 7.  On my old laptop (with XP) I always used Movie Maker to edit the shows & make clips.  I'm trying to learn to use the new version of Movie maker but when I import the video I only get sound, no picture. Do I need to somehow convert the video because the WinTV is too old to be compatible?  I saw a question with a similar problem but they weren't using WinTV.  I'm not that computer savvy & I don't know if the answer given to them applies to my problem. Thanks.

i'm running windows XP with SP3 and recently installed movie maker. i've made a couple of movies but when i try to save the movie it gives me the following error

windows movie maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the savings location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, and try again.

i've checked all that is stated but still i'm getting the same error message. i've even changed the quality settings to see if that helps but still no success. it says that the estimates space required is 46.96mb i've got  60.56gb free space on my drive. the movie that i have made to test all the different settings are 00:03:01.04long according to movie maker.

can any one please help me with this problem?

IN THE WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER IN VISTA THERE WAS A STORYBOARD WHERE YOU COULD DRAG ELEMENTS OF YOUR MOVIE ONTO THE STORYBOARD.

IN THE NEW MOVIEMAKER THIS SEEMS TO NO LONGER EXIST COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHY.
