The Contacts displayed in MS Outlook / Win 7 (64 bit) are jumbled. I loaded Outlook the same as previous machines, and imported Contacts which previously displayed correctly in Outlook 2010 on Win 7 (64 bit). Is something over-riding the normal display?
I use the Name Details window to enter the name elements.
In File/ Options/ Contacts, the default “Full Name” order is ‘Last, First’. The default “File As” order also is ‘Last, First’, but I change this on individual contacts as needed in the Name Details window.
First phase on new computer:
Contacts set to “File As” ‘First Last’ in the Detail Window alphabetize and display correctly.
Contacts set to “File As” ‘Last, First’ for example: Anderson, Lucy: The names alphabetize correctly, but they display backwards.
In Card view, the banner is alphabetized under A = Anderson, but it displays as Lucy Anderson, not Anderson, Lucy.
In Business Card view, the top banner displays correctly: Anderson Lucy. Inside the card displays Lucy Anderson.
Since most of my contacts display as ‘Last, First’, it was impossible to look at this mess. I figured maybe a default setting was wrong when I imported the Contacts. So I confirmed that “File As” was set to ‘Last, First’. Then I literally went through and resaved every Contact. Now the same but opposite problem exists.
Second phase:
Contacts set to “File As” ‘Last, First’ in the Detail window now alphabetize and display correctly. However, note there is no comma, the display is Anderson Lucy – don’t know if this is relevant.
Contacts set to “File As” ‘First Last’ for example: Lucy Smith. The names alphabetize correctly, but they display backwards.
In Card view, the banner is alphabetized under L = Lucy, but it displays as Smith Lucy, not Lucy Smith.
In Business Card view, the top banner displays correctly: Lucy Smith. Inside the card displays Smith Lucy, again no comma.
It seems I’ve mitigated the mess, but the fundamental problem persists. HELP! I’m afraid to sync to my phone. Note that Address Book (completely different setting) has never changed or been an issue at any time.
Thank you in advance for your assistance and consideration.
