Can’t send Email – Error Message: “Please use the following format for email addresses: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***”

I keep getting the error message.  "Please use the following format for email addresses:  *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.  Possible typos: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***"  The CORRECT address format for the email I'm trying to send is *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.    Why can't hotmail/outook accommodate this type of email format?  I do not have this problem with other email clients.
