Question about Outlook Express

I recently created an outlook.com account that I wanted to sync with my desktop Outlook program. In order to do that, I had to use the Outlook Connector. After Connector was installed, I tried to insert the correct account settings, which was trial & error (I'm not a techie). What I wound up with is a primary Outlook account that is not functioning but also a secondary Outlook account that does function except for the fact that new mail notification does not work with it.

I would like to change the secondary account to the primary account and keep that as the only email account. Can this be done without disturbing the settings on the secondary account, which is functioning well?
