How can I see a full screen for hotmail? Now 2 inches of blank space appears on right. Wasted space

When I open Hotmail, my inbox lists emails received and there is a 2 inch blank space to the right.  When I click to open an email, the blank space stays there.  If I close the email, then reopen it, sometimes the blank space disappears and I can see the whole width.  How can I get rid of the blank space permanently?
