When I launch Movie Maker on my relatively new laptop (just a few months old) I get a flash on the screen as if Movie maker is about to open then a pop-up with this error message: "Sorry, Movie Maker had to shut down unexpectedly. Please restart it, then try again. (Error 0x80004005)"

However, I cannot restart the program and try again as Movie Maker was never open in the first place. Since the first time I tried launching Movie Maker on this computer I have received this error message. Movie Maker came preinstalled on this computer but has never worked.

I have researched this error multiple times but I have found no real answers, and nothing that actually worked.

I have already tried the following:

  • Restarting the computer
  • Uninstalling and reinstalled Movie Maker (in windows live essentials)
  • Running As Administrator
  • Using the system file checker tool (which was recommended in another thread posted by a user who has the same problem as I do. It did not work for that user either.)

I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you for your time!
