Hello! I know that Microsoft MVPs and Employees frequent this site, so I thought that perhaps this might be a good place to pose the question/report an issue. In fact, the issue is not with the software but rather a somewhat prominent scam based on Movie Maker software. The "report issue" type threads seemed more applicable to viruses or phishing-type issues so I did not want to clutter those forums. The story:
For class video projects, we use Movie Maker. Though I provide instructions for bullet-proof installation, some students summon the power of Google/Bing to find the Movie maker installation files. This is fine, of course, until students choose to download the files from a site such as this:
http://www.windows-movie-maker.org/
Upon installation of the package from this site, Movie Maker appears to work as it should. But when performing a file export (i.e. "Save Movie"), this installation asks for payment to continue. In other words, this is a scam. As these folks do not understand that the file does not come from Microsoft, guess who gets the blame? Microsoft! I do make them aware of the scam.
So I suppose I am just looking for where I can report such scams. I know these sites are a dime a dozen, but this one is so prominently displayed via search results that I wanted to reach out. I am also notifying search engines. Thank you!
