We have been running Outlook 2011 v14.4.2. Last week I installed the update to v14.4.6 and we immediately noticed a change in the way Outlook dealt with messages in Public folders on our Exchange Server. In attempting to resolve the issue I also installed the update to v14.4.8 thinking maybe the problem had been addressed in this most recent release, but the problem still exists.
We have a Public folder I'll call Customer Files where customers submitting art to us send their files. Several users monitor this inbox and when they see a new message they download the attachments and then move the original email message to a folder marked for the specific customer. For example ABC Inc. would have a folder within the Customer Files public folder and XYZ Equip would have one also that contains any emails that have been processed for them. These are all Public folders so all the users monitoring the Customer Files emails can see what has been processed and moved to the individual customers' folders and what emails still need to be addressed.
After the recent update we noticed that instead of moving the messages to the individual customers' folders, Outlook is only making a copy and the original is still in the main Customer Files folder on the Exchange Server. However, to the individual user who moved the file, it looks like it has been moved to the customer's folder. When another user looks at it on their computer, it is still in the main Customer Files folder. They can then move the file and it makes a copy in the customer's folder and appears to have been moved from the Customer Files folder, but it is merely copying the file and not moving it and we end up with multiple copies of the same messages as different users think that the file has not been processed since it is still showing in their main folder.
We have tried moving the files by both dragging and dropping them to the appropriate folder and by using the Move command from the menu and either method only results in a copy of the file on the Exchange server and not an actual move. We can log into email via OWA and see the state of the mail on the Exchange server and this is how we noticed that it was only copying the messages and not moving them as it has in the past.
Just wondering if anyone has seen this behavior and knows of any change in Outlook that has caused it, or if there are any upcoming updates that may address the problem. For now I am having to roll back our users to the older version in order for them to work properly with the Public folders. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Beth
