I have a BT Internet account and have had no problem sending and receiving email on my PC using Windows Mail (NOT WINDOWS LIVE MAIL) until 22 December. My settings were Outgoing SMTP 25 SSL not enabled. Incoming POP3 110 SSL not enabled. I spoke with BT who said change settings to Outgoing SMTP 465 SSL enabled and Incoming POP3 995 SSL enabled.

With original settings my error messages are.............

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

With the BT advised settings, the error messages change to
