Hi,

I'm using Windows Photo Gallery 2012 Build 16.4.3528.331 on Windows 8.1 Update 1

I have recently noticed that when using the star rating system, Photo Gallery changes the file size of images

For example

When viewing a folder of images, I select View > All Details, this lets me see several images

I can then easily click a rating for a file

However,

When I click a rating, the file size in MB listed above, changes downwards, sometimes by quite a lot. The issue seems to manifest in larger images from a DSLR. Small pictures <8 Megapixel seem to have no change, moderate file sizes (taken with a 12 Mega Pixel DSLR) have a small effect and larger files taken with a 24 Mega pixel camera have a significant change. To be clear I'm not re-saving or doing anything other than clicking a rating. I can only assume Windows Photo Gallery is resaving as a more compressed JPEG but this worries me, as I'm not asking it to do this. All I'm doing is rating files.

Does anyone know what causes this and can anyone else replicate it.

If this continues I will switch away from Photo Gallery as I can't afford for it to be modifying files without request,
