Photo gallery has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly

Tried everything here:

That is, I deleted all of the files in the WLPG appdata folder, tried a repair, uninstalled and reinstalled, tried app compatibility settings for several OS’s.  

This is a new machine (today) fresh default HP Windows 8.1 fully updated system with pretty much nothing non-MS installed.

Ideas?
