well I'm now well into my 6th hour of finding a solution, finally reinstalling all of Office 2011 (and all that goes with that)
the re-downloading issue seems to have resolved.
But now, as before, when I select "advanced" in accounts pref, in order to ensure the aforementioned pref is toggled off, Outlook hangs--eternal beachball.
would that one of you intrepid souls would come to my rescue
