I've got an LG Optimus Elite, Android 2.3.7

But when I check email, I want it to be updated, or I want to be able to easily update it. I want updates without push. I can't seem to make this app do that.

Am I missing something? Is it not functioning properly? 

When I uncheck "enable push", I get a message that the app has "paused". The app no longer updates when new messages come in.

When I go to my inbox and hit refresh, my email updates with new messages. I check settings, and the push setting has been toggled back to "on", against my wishes. This happens even if I have the update method set to "manually" (what is the point of a manual setting if, once you manually update, you then start receiving automatic push notifications? Am I supposed to reset the manual setting every time?). I start receiving status bar/sound notifications, which I don't want. I re-disable push. The app pauses and stops updating. Etc.

What I want is the update without the push. Isn't that an option? If so, I can't find it.
