Outlook 2011 for Mac – Issues with read email appearing as unread

Hi 

Of late my Outlook for Mac 2011 has developed a problem of showing selected emails as unread even though I have read them.

My inbox doesn't show these as unread only in the inbox list are they shown as highlighted.

My Outlook version is 14.3.6   would appreciate your help in solving this strange problem.
