HW: HP-9250 Elite desktop, 6MB RAM

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1 (64-bit).

SW: Windows Live Mail 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.0308)

What I want the software to do: I want to work offline, writing emails and accumulating them in the Outbox, but not sending them yet. As I click on the "Send" icon for each email as I finish it, I expect it to go into the Outbox and stay there.

What is happening instead: Instead, when I press Send, the mailer's mode changes instantly to "Working Online" and the message is sent. The exact same behavior occurs if I go into the Options tab and click "Send Later." It goes back online and sends the message. Nothing is saved in the Outbox.

Why doesn't it stay in Offline mode? Is there a program setting that I missed? I couldn't find anything like that. Please help if you can. I'm sure it must be something simple and stupid. >:-{
