Previous answers say to go to the "view" tab and make sure the "status bar" is checked.

 However, I am unable to or do not know how to get to the "view" tab. I do not see any "view" tab at all in my Outlook e-mail inbox or anywhere else I navigate to from there. What is going on?

   Please provide precise instructions for every step needed to get to the "view" tab.
