My outlook down loads but leaves the mail on the server and if i delete it from the server then the next time outlook sends and receives it deletes it from my inbox

Outlook 2013 works fine except  it leaves the e-mails on the server. After I have manually deleted the e-mails from the server, when next outlook runs a send and receive it deletes it from my inbox. 
How does one set outlook 2013 to delete the mail on the server after downloading it?
