Would codecs  be a problem for a Windows Surface Pro 2 running fully updated Windows 8.1?

My Movie Maker crashes when I click full-screen preview. Otherwise, Movie Maker behaves well for what it can do.  I only have .jpgs and mp3s in the movie file.

It developed this preview crash problem recently.  I hadn't installed any applications recently, but the problem may have started after a recent Windows update. I would think Microsoft would have put the proper codec on the machine and not messed with it in an update. It's your machine, after all.

I did reinstall and run the repair utility, which did not resolve the problem.

Do I have to chase down codec problems?

Thanks,

Kim
