"one day, she turns on her computer, but,  to her surprise, there's no cursor, no matter how she touches her touchpad"  She didn't live happily ever after.  Without the cursor, you're screwed!!!!  All of a sudden, my touchpad is unresponsive.  I had to borrow someone's mouse to use my laptop.  Anyone?
