Hi, I have a Dell XPS 12 that came with Windows 8 and was upgraded to Windows 8.1. I installed Windows Essentials 2012 and used Movie Maker to load a particular HD video clip (.MOV) and then save it in a variety of MP4 formats.  No problem.  But now Movie Maker has stopped working properly. When I try adding the same .MOV clip I get the error: "Movie Maker has stopped working".

When I followed some suggestions to change the compatibility to "Windows 7" I get a different error: "Movie Maker Transcoder has stopped working"
I have tried simple & clean uninstalls and reinstalls but the same problems occur.
I've downgraded and upgraded graphics drivers to no avail.
I've used MSCONFIG to disable all non-Microsoft services and Start-up tasks, but the problems still occur?

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

These are recently installed programs.  Does anyone know of incompatibilities with Movie Maker?

 - VLC

 - Helium Music Manager

 - DAEMON Tools

 - Intel WiDi drivers

 - Some others that I cant remember!

Thanks,

M
