I made a movie by editing together about 6 gigabytes of video clips (.mov) and saved the final movie but the final movie is 2 gigabytes. The original file is 16:9 at 30fps at 1920x1080. The data rate is nearly 20,000 kbps. The saved movie file shows the data rate at 7,200 kbps with the other spec being the same.  It looks good and plays fine but I would rather not loose information in a lossy file format. Is what is happening similar to ripping an audio CD to MP3 format? I prefer to rip my audio CDs to FLAC format (lossless). Am I losing any information in this process or is the information preserved in a condensed form? Hard drives are cheap and I do not want to lose any information if I can prevent it.
