I have searched up this issue and found threads from 2013. I tried all the "fixes" but I still cannot get my camera to work.
I'm running Windows 8 and I'm trying to import videos from my Sony HVR-V1P It is connected with 1394 (Firewire). The video camera is recognized and I can start the import process but once it finishes rewinding the tape is comes up with an error saying:
"The video device is currently in use. Close any other programs that is using the device and try again. If you need to start Import Video again, turn off your import device and the turn it on again."
I've tried the following:
Disabling all startup programs
Installing 'legacy' 1394 driver
Importing through Movie Maker
I have changed the camera settings and the best I can get is that it attempts to capture the video and will communicate with the camera, it just will not capture the video.
Yes I appreciate it is an old camera and it all worked fine on my old Dell. This is a new Dell 8700 and I purchased a fire wire card so I could continue to use the Pro video camera I have.
From the previous threads it didn't look good on a solution so I hoping we can sort it out now it is 2017
