I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate 32 bit two days ago. I installed MSE and ran updates without problems yesterday. Also installed ~115 Windows Updates. I downloaded and install IE8 using a thumb drive because IE7 would not run when connected to MS download site.

MSE is running however when I tied to run updates it fail. The error message stated internet connection failed. I have a perfectly running ethernet connection, obviously or I would not be posting this issue. I checked to make sure there wer no old services running - none.

One Windows update has failed to install and that is Vista SP1. I don't know if my attempt to manually install SP1 may have caused a problem with MSE updates. Manual install of SP1 did not work but I will deal with that in a seperate post.

So this is sort of a who is on first question. Could the SP1 failure to install be causing the MSE failure to update?

If the two are unrelated what might be causing the MSE no internet connection erro message?
