Live account switched to 365… can no longer log in

I have a Live account that was set up with my university 6 years ago, I have been using it fine for the past 6 years, recently received an email from the university via the live account that they were switching over to office365 - of which i stupidly paid very little attention. Now if i log into my account via hotmail.com/live... this comes up.... 
Error This account can't be used to access outlook.com.
You are currently signed in with an office 365 account, which can't be used on outlook.com. Please click here to sign out of your office 365 account , then use another account to sign into outlook.com. 

Is there anyway to get my account back? :o( 
Although i am still receiving emails to my Iphone, i need to go back and look for an old email.

Any help would be great :D
