I have two email addresses, one of which is used for my microsoft account.
The other address has received two emails, 4 days apart, apparently from microsoft (*** Email address is removed for privacy ***), asking me to verify my email address. The text is as follows:
| Microsoft account | |
| Verify your email address | |
| To finish setting up this Microsoft account, we just need to make sure this email address is yours. | |
| |
| Or you may be asked to enter this security code: [edited out] | |
| If you didn't make this request, click here to cancel. | |
| Thanks, | |
| The Microsoft account team |
The link previews on the "verify" and "click here" links tell me that the links go to https://account.live.com web addresses.
I haven't requested a microsoft account with the email address in question, and the lack of "dear [username]" makes me suspicious of clicking any links. But I also think that someone keeps giving out the wrong email address (my email address) when they register
for things because a few times a year I will get genuine messages for someone else.
In short, I am trying to figure out if this is a legit email and someone has registered the wrong email address (again!) and it is OK to click the cancel link. Or should I report it as spam?
